Chapter One - Our World.
When you have only one to turn to, do you trust it? Would you give it the trust of your life, would you let it do as it wished with that life? And if so, does that make you weak, a coward or both?
A new day, a new menace, a fear of being wiped out. That was the daily life of the surviving human group, for they had been living like this for years. Food had become scare, life had been kept away from them and the things they had created now were against them. The battle for the day had already started, as people took the skies and fought. Humanity had hundreds for them to use, while the machines had thousands to use, waste, re-create and so on. It made the watchers of the fight grow nervous, technology had come so far, yet now it threatened them. Biting his thumb gently, Robert stood patiently, waiting for the secret weapons to come. Yet the 4th squad had not come out, nor could they call upon the other three, who were sadly busy fighting for Europe, China and Russia. Each squad was made up of ten units, with one of these units leading them. Squad 1, however, was called away from a surprise attack on Europe. Squad 2 was called in to protect China from being wiped out. And Squad 3 had been called in for a mission Russia had to finally take out the forces of the machines, but to no avail yet. Squad 4 had been finished for two years now, and yet on the first day they had to come out, something was keeping them from going out...
The battle wasn't looking any better for the remains of America either. Fighting above the North Atlantic Ocean, with the ruins of once great cities lying in the distance before them and with only a gloomy sky hanging above them, the two sides fought. The machines had sent out hundreds of small prototype machines, which the humans called 'The Pawns' for the main use that they were the easiest to wipe out, but always the largest in numbers. Each of them was about the size of a truck, able to fire small rapid shots at the enemies before them. Floating near by them was a 'Boss' type machine, which had six arms with a glowing core in the center of it's machinery design. The core looked very similar to an eye and made it look like it was watching the battle with caution. The humans were using 'Morphers' that could not bond with a human, meaning they could not change. Normally a Morpher was the size of a house and was able to fend off the machine's forces. But unless it was bonded with a modified super-human, it could not be used to it's full power. And right now, the thirty Morphers that were fighting were losing a hard battle. "Come on..." Mumbled one of the pilots. "Where are they?!"
"Come on, I don't have to do that." Xander said as he shrugged his shoulders.
"Yes, you do!" His partner commanded out towards him, almost smacking him right on the spot, but she stopped herself. "If you don't go out there now, all those people will have died for nothing!"
"So?" Xander asked.
"SO?! Do you not CARE?!" She went to actually smack him this time, but...
"Stop it, both of you." The commanding leader of Squad 4 said, glaring at them both. "Xander, go or I will go for you. And then we will see if you ever go back out or not..." He crossed his arms over his chest at this. "Make the choice."
"Oh, fine, fine!" Xander said and snapped his fingers, his Morpher opening up as he jumped on to the right wing and then jumped into the seat, closing his eyes as it closed. "Let's go, XO4..." With those words mumbled, the Morpher started up and slowly lifted up, before blasting out. Out of a hole it flew out of, heading rapidly towards the battle going on, with only twenty five more Morphers left out there.
"FINALLY, he's out here!" The pilot who spoke before said. "BOYS, support the XO4 from here on out until all Pawns are destroyed!"
"ROGER!" Replied the other twenty-four.
Xander knew the basics, as his right eye started to glow red at this. He was part of a squad who had been genetically altered to basically become a super human, meaning he was physically more fit then any normal human, although it didn't show. At the age of only fourteen, Xander was the latest super human to have been created for a Morpher. A Morpher was a machine that had been built to counter the machine invasion, which had been going on longer then he had been alive. Had it been twenty, forty, or even sixty years now? He really didn't remember right now, he hated historical lessons. He was special because only he could 'bond with his Morpher, in a sense, making it able to unleash it's full power. Those Morphers that couldn't bond with a human were given to normal humans to use, Morphers were one of the last hopes humanity had left. That meant Xander had to grow up soon, and he hated that fact. What good did it do humanity, to live underneath a once great city, to fight for the survival of our world, when machines had stolen most of the life from Earth. Xander sighed out as he neared the Pawns, which most of them began firing at him. "Come on, you stupid machines... Come get some."
Xander grabbed the control sticks in front of him and began to fire at the machines, red shots being fired out at the Pawns as it easily began to destroy them one by one. The Boss type was observing the XO4 now, watching it carefully as it began to get closer to the battle, it's arms tensing up for battle. Xander continued to fight though, with the others helping him out as the Pawns continued to advance and tried to make kamikaze stunts. "Hehe, can't let you do that." Xander replied and stopped for a moment, pulling back suddenly and stopped firing. The other Morphers knew the drill and all spread out, moving away from the Pawns as they advanced on him. Xander concentrating, his right eye glowing as he focused on the Pawns coming from all sides at him. Then he knew it was time, and pressed down on both control sticks at the same time. Two red blasts came out, more powerful then the others, and when they hit the first Pawns they could get, they exploded. Both explosions wiped out a majority of the Pawns, while the others were caught in the aftershock of the blasts as they were now stuck in place, red lightning covering them as they were paralyzed.
The other Morphers came in and started to wipe them out, but Xander wasn't getting out of this fight that easily. One of the Bosses arms came and grabbed him, his eyes widened as the machine lifted up the XO4 to it's core, studying and analyzing it as the other arms aimed at him. "Not happening!" Xander exclaimed, putting the control sticks away as he inserted his arms into either side of him, the room around him glowing red as the main gun on the machine split off into two parts. Then both of them landed on either side of the Morpher and changed into human-like arms, while mostly remaining the same size. The Boss quickly went in to strike, but Xander was quicker to the draw and punched the Core with the XO4's right fist, making it crack as it pulled away and released him, seeming to move around wildly. "Want more, eh?" He remarked as he quickly moved the Morpher and grabbed one of the arms on the Boss, jerking it back quickly as he pulled for a few until the arm was ripped off. The Boss quickly moved away, but Xander flew at it and jammed the arm into the core, breaking through it. Then Xander flew back as his left hand glowed red, thrusting it forward and sending a red blast into the arm, destroying it and damaging the core in the process.
The boss struggled for a bit before fully turning around and beginning to retreat. Xander pursued after it, but it quickly dived into the water, forcing him to stop. "... Coward." He stated once it was gone, turning back to see the others finishing up the few Pawns left. Xander pulled his arms out as the arms joined back with the main gun part to reform it back to normal. "XO4, we're preparing to head back to the base. Stick in the center with us." Xander sighed out in reply as he pressed a button. "Yeah, roger." He said and grabbed the control sticks at this. "... XO4, why can't you do the talking for once?" He said as he began to head towards the others. "... Oh, right. You don't have a voice. Sorry about that. Wish you did, would keep me company when I don't have to deal with these guys. Oh right, I'm also going to get lectured when I get back, right? ... I'd rather stay with you."
